2002 Chiba Ekiden Relay - Chiba, Japan - 11/23/02

Team USA was composed of Ryan Kirkpatrick, Dave Davis, Richie Brinker, Nolan Swanson, and Brian Sell. Teren Jameson served as the alternate. Team USA covered the 42.195 km course in 2:03:59, finishing 7th out of 16 teams. An ekiden relay is a five man marathon relay, with legs of 10km, 5km, 10km, 5km, and 12.195km.

Hansons ODP athletes Richie Brinker and Brian Sell each ran strong legs for team USA. Brinker got the baton in 13th place and managed to catch one team handing off in 12th. He ran his 10km leg in 29:25, which was the 5th fastest time in that leg. Sell ran the 12.195km anchor leg in 36:48, which was the 7th fastest anchor time. He received the baton in 9th place and passed Team France and the Japanese University Team.
