Pretty on for the most part, the slow mile was the turn around coupled with getting water. Really trying to work on drinking even though I don't feel like I need to. Felt easy most of the way. Hamstring tightened up again near the end. Went to get the rusty elbow afterwards.

As a team we crushed the competition with an iron fist. Winning by about 7 minutes and breaking the old course record. It was a fun event and my first time up North

I would venture to say we were running 5:20-5:30 pace for most of the way. I had good spots and bad spots today. Overall happy with the quality of the run. I really need to practice drinking more, this was my first long run trying it so hopefully it gets better.

Solid workout today. The second 3 miles were pretty tough but I actually didn't die too bad, in fact I hit pace dead on. Rain and humidity sucked the life outta me. Practiced drinking and my stomach started acting like Moen without his prozac. Got to run all alone today, I think it might be a lonely 2 months at Stoney for this guy.

08/22/2006  00:00:00  20  Long Run   Run was easy like a Sunday morning...for the first 14 minutes or so. Ran another of Clint's crazy loops. Felt pretty solid until the big hill up Adams. My plan was to hang back the first part of the hill and then catch the lead group about half way after the blew their loads. There was no catching to be done on my part. Ran with Kyle till the trail where we ran 5:20, 5:06 and then Kyle turned to me, put me over his knee and said "who's your daddy bitch" and proceeded to run 5:00. Needless to say I did not run 5 flat. I ran like 5:15 maybe. It was a rough "cool down".

08/26/2006  00:00:00  10  Competition   Race went exactly how I wanted it to go. Ran easy 5 min mile splits through 5 miles. I was pretty dead on, only had one slow one and felt easy. Hit the first hill at 5 miles and picked up the effort and kept hitting dead pan 5 min splits. Pulled the vulture move and hawked down the dying carcases of some Kenyans. Ran 4:40 on the last mile to finish up pretty quick. Overall felt strong, happy with the way I ran for where I am in the segment.

Had a tough time getting out on pace but once I got going I found it again. Aerobically I didn't feel bad at all. My legs were beat up from the race today though. Every hill really put the burn in the quads. Cumulative fatigue I guess, just hope I make it to the race.

Workout was actually pretty easy today even though my legs felt like cement. Aerobically I am feeling great at this pace which should be good for the Marathon. I actually like that my legs are junk because it should make the last 10 miles feel normal. Only problem was that my calf really seized up on the cool down and has been pretty sore all day. Got some stim/ultrasound from clint, iced a bit, and dug into it myself. Hopefully I can get through this, just need to be careful and smart.

Felt decent for the middle of the run but the last few miles were really sore. Iced afterwards and got some stim. Ionto'd it a couple of times today so I think that will speed things along faster.

09/03/2006  00:00:00  20  Easy Run   It was a nice easy long run today with most of the pace pushers out of town. This actually was good for me today I think because it gave my calf a little bit of a break. Hopefully with a few easier days I can get it back to 100 percent. It actually felt ok till about 1:45 and then it started to tighten up. Another day of trying to kick its ass. Took almost 32oz of gatorade and a gu so hydration is coming along, just need to do it at 5:15 pace.  
09/04/2006  00:00:00  14  Easy Run   Calf seemed to have regressed a little today oddly. I woke up and it felt the best it has yet but during the run it started to hurt. I wore the MOGO's today, perhaps they aggravate the calf more than Adrenalines. I am going to get my 90 day return on that shit, haha.
 
Overall the run was ok, made the decision before Snell to take it easy today because of the calf and just not feeling great the last few days.

Calf felt so so, mostly very sore to the touch and a minimal pain while running, just an ache. Trying to decide whether to give it a day or two rest, especially with long workout coming up.

Workout went well, especially with the calf. Didn't cause problems during and only a little sore afterwards. Looks like I may have dodged a bullet, gonna try and be proactive till the race. Now I can stop talking about it like a panzy. Legs were tired today but that was nice because it will be like that in the race too.

09/09/2006  00:00:00  22.5  Long Run   According to Luke the run was 22.5 maybe 23 so I am putting that down. Pace was uptempo from the gun which kept it an honest effort. Actually went by fairly quick and didn't feel horrendous which was a surprise considering how I felt the last few days. Ran about 5:10-5:20 on the trail and did the 2 miles uptempo at (5:04)(5:13). That uphill sucked a big one.
 
Took an icebath after the run. Went to the country store but it was closed so drove to the corner gas station and saw a guy walking out with two ice bags in his hand. I was like "sweet, they have ice". When I asked the clerk for some he informed me that he just sold the last two bags. Time to invest in an ice machine for the house.

Workout went well today although I got a little excited on some of the intervals. Started pouring on us to start which was fun. Today was not one of my better pacing days, I just need to relax a little more and not "want" to be fast.

Stopped at the track to watch Sheehan for a bit. When I started back up my calf cramped big time. Have a massage this morning so shouldn't be abig problem.  
09/14/2006  00:00:00  Easy Run   Ran with Sheehan and Travis. Calf felt real tight to start, calmed down after about a mile and a half but then got really bad again at like 4.5. Hurts to walk around now. Time to play catch up with the ol body again.

Didn't leave me with that achy tired feeling after tho so that is nice. My calf was killing me. When I got going fast it wasn't too bad, just a mild pain but on the cool down and recovery jogs it felt like a nail being driven into my upper calf. Luckily planned afternoon off, gonna go see Ormsbee.

Feels like a spasm so I figure I can just try my best to gut through it until it releases. Saw Dr. John this morning. He has a much bonier elbow than Kyle but I enjoyed. Oh yeah, and I got dropped in the race for the cup today  
09/16/2006  00:00:00  Easy Run   Calf started out 9 out of 10. Really thought of bagging it and then just ground it out. By the end it loosned up to about a 7 so that was nice. Stuck it in a the ice bucket after and then some ionto tonight to see if that helps.  
09/17/2006  00:00:00  14  Easy Run   Calf took about 2 miles to loosen up and then it actually felt ok. However, it went into lock down mode about the 1:20 mark, about the same time as yesterday. Perhaps I just need to start banging out 12 milers in under 1:20 and seeing if stops seizing up. Overall nice easy run although quads banged up from limping I think.

09/18/2006  00:00:00  21  Easy Run   Wow, this was one of the top 5 worst runs ever, if not one of the top 3. It just seemed like from the start I was struggling. It felt like the calf hurt so much that it was taking my breath away and I was running with an akward gait. 5:50 pace felt really hard and at some water stops it was like I needed to stop and catch my breath and I couldn't get my breathing under control. Stayed with the group till the trail and then tried to hit MP but wasn't even close. Ran 5:20, 6:00, 6:15. I was running as hard as I could. I guess that is what hitting the wall feels like. Probably going to take tommorow off because obviously I can't train with the calf like this.
