Hansons get job done at New York
12/31/06 - 01/01/07
The Men's Olympic Trials Marathon for 2007 will be in Central Park, NY the day before the NYC Marathon (Nov. 3rd for the Trials). The Hansons teamed up with Mary Wittenberg and the New York Road Runners to get a sneak peak at the Olympic Trials course. 11 guys and 2 coaches (Kevin and Keith) went out to New York City this past New Years Eve weekend for a race and a course preview with Sam Grotewold and the NYRR's. They ran several loops on the course, trying to get as much experience on the course as possible. Dave Ernsberger quotes "I like the hills!", while others such as Clint Verran say "The course is never flat, it is either going up hill or it is going down hill. It is going to be a tough day."
As the clock struck midnight, the Emerald Nuts racers waited for the fireworks to signal from Time Square instead of the standard "starting-pistol". Luke Humphrey was the first Hanson to come across the line. He took 3rd place with a time of 18:45 for the 4 mile race. Chad Johnson and Clint Verran were 2 seconds behind him respectively. After Verran, the rest of the Hansons team came pouring in, one after the other.
Kevin and Keith Hanson were thrilled with the weekend and were quoted saying this, "The trip was a HUGE success! This gives us a blueprint of how we want to train for the Olympic Trials. The Olympic Trials only comes up every 4 years, for us not to be ready for this, would be like going to the Prom without a date."
